President Donald Trump said Tuesday that with social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, he does not have to go "around a lot of the media."
"Between Twitter and Facebook and all of the different things, I have so many millions of people," Trump told Fox News "Fox & Friends" anchors Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade in an exclusive interview "It allows me to give a message without going to people where I'm giving them a message and putting it down differently from what I mean."
That does not mean he does not have to go around the media at all, but "it does allow me to go around the dishonest media," Trump said.
Trump continued, if he felt the media was honest, or at least most of the media, he would not use social media to get his message across, but "it is a modern day form of communication, especially when have you, you know, tens of millions of people like I have."
He also admitted his use of Twitter is not methodical.
"No method, really," he told Fox News. "It's just – it's not venting either."
The president also discussed Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain's criticism of a mission in Yemen in which Navy SEAL Chief Special Warfare Officer William "Ryan" Owens and the news that the dead commando's father refused to meet with Trump came to Dover Air Force Base to receive his son's casket.
"This was a mission that started before I got here," Trump said. "This was something that was, you know, they wanted to do. And they came to see me. They explained what they wanted to do, the generals, who were very respected."
Trump said he did meet most of Owens' "great" family, and there is "nothing worse" than the loss.
However, he said, according to Defense Secretary James Mattis, "it was a very successful mission. They got tremendous amounts of information."
