Staubach's Daughter Wins Dallas Council Seat

Jennifer Staubach Gates, daughter of legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, won a seat on the Dallas City Council on Saturday by a healthy 2-to-1 margin over investor Leland Burk.

Community activist Staubach Gates' big margin was particularly impressive since Burk spent more money on the campaign and had the endorsement of retiring Councilwoman Ann Margolin.

For years in the 1980s, Roger Staubach was frequently mentioned as a candidate for office in his native Texas. At one point, a movement was launched to draft Staubach, a conservative Republican, for a U.S. Senate bid. The football great promptly repudiated it and made it clear he wasn't interested.

Although the municipal elections in Dallas are nonpartisan, Staubach Gates is a conservative Republican.
