Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth has torn into Republican Sen. Mark Kirk — whom she's challenging in the Illinois Senate race — for failing to criticize Donald Trump's racially tinged remarks about a judge.

At a campaign stop, Duckworth said Kirk's "silence is betrayal" and charged him with being "complicit" in the presumptive GOP presidential nominee's campaign of "hate and division," the Chicago Tribune reports.

The contender for the Illinois Senate wrote:

Trump has been under fire for saying that Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over a lawsuit brought against Trump University, because he's "a Mexican."

Trump wants to force Mexico to pay for a 10-foot-high border wall to stop the influx of illegal Mexican immigrants.

"Trump's statements are outrageous. They are un-American and they are dangerous … Trump may be a clown, but he isn't funny. He's not a riverboat gambler to be admired," Duckworth said, according to the Tribune.

"Sen. Kirk, you may think in your own words that Donald Trump would be a net positive for the Republican Party (and) that you are looking forward to becoming a steady hand to advise a President Donald Trump," she said.
