Sens. Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders will take to the debate stage next week for the second time this year, this time sparring over the GOP's tax reform framework.

CNN will host the debate in primetime on Oct. 18.

Cruz and Sanders first debated in February over the pros and cons of Obamacare.

Cruz and Senate Republicans very much need to put tax cuts on the desk of President Donald Trump after their many failures to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Cruz has been lobbying for Congress to simplify the tax code and offer the kind of cuts that will spur economic growth.

Conversely, Sanders will predictably make the argument that the plan is nothing more than massive tax breaks for the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans. The Vermont senator last week called it "the Robin Hood principle in reverse."
