Jihadists have been waging war on the United States, Israel, and Europe for years, GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Sunday, but the president lectures Americans on Islamophobia rather than acknowledging the threat or what the United States is actually fighting: Radical Islamic terrorism.
"You know this past week all of us mourned this terrible terrorist attack in Brussels, and we have seen these attacks occurring over and over again," the Texas senator told Fox News'
"Fox News Sunday" program. "This attack was not a lone wolf. It wasn't an isolated incident...and for seven years president Obama and Hillary Clinton and this administration have been so bound up by political correctness they refused to acknowledge what it is we're fighting."
And one of the consequences of such political correctness, he continued, is that the Obama administration embraces policies that make no sense, including bringing in Syrian Muslim refugees.
Cruz renewed his call for policing the nation's Muslim neighborhoods, pointing out that one successful program was started in New York City under then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg to engage "cooperatively with the Muslim community" to prevent radicalization.
"Liberal Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio, when he got elected, one of the first things he did in a nod to political correctness is he did disband that unit," said Rubio. "That doesn't make any sense. We need to be going after where the threat comes from and the threat comes from radicalization."
Cruz also denied findings in a CNN poll that said he comes in behind rival GOP candidate Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidates Clinton and Bernie Sanders when it comes to foreign policy.
"I'll tell you who is in over their head and it's Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and John Kerry and the entire Obama administration,"said Cruz. "Every single region on Earth, Shannon, got worse [during their tenure]. Our friend and allies, we've abandoned them. This has been the most anti-Israel administration we have ever seen. And we have shown weakness and appeasement to our enemies."
