As president, Donald Trump would push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress – an effort he said Tuesday was part of "our pledge to drain the swamp."

The GOP nominee followed up on his five-point plan for ethics reform that will include stricter rules on lobbyists, such as a five-year ban before a former legislator or official can become one, he told supporters at a Colorado Springs, Colo., rally.

"But there's another major announcement I'm going to make [Tuesday] as part of our pledge to drain the swamp," Trump added.

"If I'm elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress."

"They've been talking about that for years," he continued. "Decades of failure in Washington and decades of special interest dealing must and will come to an end."

"We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices to change," he added. "We have to."
