NBC News is calling Texas a toss-up state in its presidential election battleground map.
The map shows former Vice President Joe Biden securing 279 electoral votes and President Donald Trump winning 125 electoral votes.
The last time the Lone Star state voted for a Democrat presidential candidate was 1976. The network also moved Arizona from leans Democrat to toss-up.
In addition, NBC News considers Georgia, Iowa, and Ohio to be toss-up states in the 2020 election. Trump won all three states in 2016. There are 134 electoral votes up for grabs in the map’s toss-up category.
Trump also captured the votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in 2016. NBC’s map labels those states as leaning Democrat.
NBC News isn’t the only one considering Texas a toss-up. RealClearPolitics shows Texas as a toss-up, but ABC News shows Trump as the favorite there. Texas has seen a surge in early voters casting their ballots.
