Sen. John Thune hit back at reports that President Donald Trump has not been taking part in the negotiations over the Republican healthcare bill, the South Dakota Republican said in an interview with Fox News Wednesday.
The New York Times published an article Tuesday that said Trump "was largely on the sidelines" of the action until Tuesday afternoon, and that he "seemed especially confused" that the bill could be "cast … as a massive tax break for the wealthy."
"The president has been very involved," Thune said on "Fox and Friends." "He's engaged with individual members that have specific concerns they want addressed. He's engaged in our entire conference as you saw yesterday. He had all Republicans come down to the White House and convey to them the sense of urgency in getting something done, and rescuing the American people in what is a failed Obamacare system."
Trump himself responded to the report, tweeting about his involvement:
He also tweeted a few disparaging remarks about the paper.
