Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez insisted Sunday he’s not focused on impeaching President Donald Trump, distancing himself from billionaire Tom Steyer’s advertising effort.
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Perez said “Steyer has a right to do whatever he feels he needs to do.”
“I applaud his efforts in investing in organizing and in helping elect Democrats,” he said, but added:
“I am not talking about impeachment because I'm talking about good jobs for folks…health care for all…making sure that we're fighting for the issues that matter most.”
“And I think when we're organizing and when we're united, as we have been during this recent cycle, I think we're at our best,” he declared.
Perez’s remarks echo those of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who last week said impeachment “is not someplace I think we should go,” urging lawmakers’ focus should be on stopping a Republican tax bill.
Perez also said Democratic victories last Tuesday taught the party that it “can compete and win everywhere.”
“That’s what we showed last week not just in New Jersey and Virginia but in mayors races and state senate races,” he said.
