Former Democrat presidential candidate and billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer wants to serve in Joe Biden’s administration if he wins the election, Politico reports.

Over the weekend, Steyer met with Jeff Zients, a co-chair of the transition team, and longtime Biden advisers Jared Bernstein and Ron Klain in Washington, D.C., a source knowledgeable about the trip told Politico.

The former hedge fund manager from California is currently working as the co-chair of Biden’s Climate Engagement Advisory Council. The source said that Steyer expressed interest in working in the administration on climate policy and the economy. Steyer told advisers he also wanted to work on climate, labor, and economic issues in the campaign.

Politico reports that no job offers were made to Steyer. A Biden transition official told the outlet that Zients and Steyer did not discuss potential job openings. A campaign official noted that neither Bernstein nor Klain are discussing possible administration roles with anyone.

Steyer then met with Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, and Lonnie Stephenson, head of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, while in the capital. He shared updates on NextGen America, an organization he funds that works to turn out young voters.

Steyer has never held political office but has been involved in campaigns as a donor and organizer. Before deciding to run for president, he had considered runs for Senate and governor in California but didn’t purse either. Shortly after he dropped out of the presidential race in February, he endorsed Biden. Since then, he has been working to fundraise for the Biden campaign even though the two clashed on the campaign trail before the primaries, Politico reports.

Biden began putting his transition team together in June. He added staff and advisers over the Labor Day weekend. Transition team officials told Politico they are "not making any appointment decisions pre-election."
