Billionaire donor Tom Steyer said he will no longer give money to national Democratic Party groups because of lawmakers' failure to reach an immigration deal before ending the government shutdown, Fortune magazine reports.

Steyer said he is concerned the deal did not include a solution regarding those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program.

"If you made a commitment to the Dreamers and you care about 800,000 young people who are legal residents of the United States in a program that the president has promised twice we should continue then we should be standing up for them," Steyer told Fortune.

"I don't have a litmus test on any one thing, but I do have a litmus test for elected officials standing on principle and doing the right thing, looked at holistically.

"And I want to say that after the DACA vote I have decided not to give anything to the national party committees."

He said his decision to refrain from donations applies to the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

Since 2015, Steyer has given over $400,000 to the three groups. His most recent donation came in September 2017 when he donated $33,900 to the DSCC, Fortune reported.

The donations are considerably less than the millions he has spent on television advertising pushing for the impeachment of President Donald Trump

He recently told The New York Times he was kicking off a new phase of his campaign to convince lawmakers to impeach Trump.

Steyer is now pushing to get millions who have signed an impeachment petition to call liberal lawmakers and press them for Trump's removal from office.
