Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., defended his vote in support of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
Suozzi was one of only 18 Democrats who voted to support ICE in this week’s House vote.
The House voted 244 to 35 to support the agency. Another 133 lawmakers voted present.
A number of Democratic lawmakers had called for ICE to be abolished.
“I do support ICE,” Suozzi said during a Friday interview on TV’s “Fox & Friends.” “I mean ICE is an important government agency and I thought this was a political stunt, quite frankly. Why don’t we put in it on the floor that we support the intelligence agencies after the president knocked them?
“I support ICE. I think they have an important job to do in this country securing our border…Do I think somethings are being handled the wrong way? I think the president has some bad policies. The separation of families…I don’t support that policy.”
