The family of Tony Kim, one of the American prisoners held in North Korea that were set free Wednesday, thanked President Donald Trump and God for the prisoners' release.
"We want to thank all of those who have worked toward and contributed to his return home. We also want to thank the president for engaging directly with North Korea. Mostly, we thank God for Tony's safe return," the family wrote in a tweeted statement.
North Korean authorities arrested Kim in April 2017 at the capital's main airport as he tried to leave the country after teaching at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology on agricultural development.
Kim and two other Korean-Americans are coming to the U.S. from North Korea with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Trump said Wednesday.
At another point in the statement, Kim's family urged prayers for the people of North Korea and "for the release of all who are still being held."
