President-elect Donald Trump's transition has 50 percent approval, while 41 percent disapprove, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll Sunday.
Trump's transition approval has been a partisan topic of debate since the Nov. 8 election. Here are the poll's approvals broken down by party affiliation:
- Republicans 82 percent.
- Democrats 12 percent.
- Independents 53 percent.
Trump's December approval rating is significantly below President Barack Obama's transition in 2008 (73 percent) and President Bill Clinton's in 1992 (77 percent), according to NBC News. President George W. Bush's December transition approval rating was not polled in 2000 because of the Florida recount.
The poll did find Trump has 68 percent of Americans believing the president-elect will change the way government works, which is higher than Clinton's 60 percent in 1992. Of those believing in change, 41 percent see it as the right kind, while 20 percent see it as the wrong kind.
NBC/WSJ polled 1,000 adults Dec.12-15 with a plus-minus 3.1 percent margin of error.
