President Donald Trump's approval rating has recovered since the partial government shutdown among women, especially among suburban women key to his re-election, according to a new Zogby poll.
Overall, the president's job approval rating has returned to its previous level of 44 percent approve/53 percent disapprove, according to the poll. It had dropped polls following the partial government shutdown.
In what Zogby called "a stunning reversal of sorts," Trump's numbers were down among men, but up with women after he agreed to end the shutdown and vowed to get more funding for a wall along the southern border to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
While the president did not receive a majority approval rating from any age group, he did grow his support with younger voters. He lost support with voters over 50. He also gained support with independents and voters without college degrees, both of whom were helpful in his election in 2016.
Trump's biggest support from suburban women comes from his declaration for a national emergency to fund the 500 miles of construction of wall along the the southern border. Suburban women support the effort at almost 50 percent, while the overall population only supports it at about 25 percent.
The poll of 1,744 likely voters was conducted randomly online between February 14 and 17. It has a margin of error of +/-2.2 percentage points.
