Report: Trump to End DACA Program

President Donald Trump as early as Friday is expected to put an end to an immigration program that allows people who illegally came to the United States as children to temporarily stay.

Fox News reported Thursday that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will come to an end after months of internal debate at the White House.

The network reported that people who are in the U.S. under the program will be allowed to stay until their work permits expire, which are good for two years.

A senior Trump administration official told Fox the announcement might come as early as Friday.

The DACA program began in 2012 under former President Barack Obama via an executive order. Trump has spoken many times about his desire to end it.

A report earlier this week claimed 700,000 jobs would be at risk if Trump ended DACA. There were rumblings last week that Trump was leaning toward spiking it from the federal books.

The University of Miami announced this week it will provide DACA students a free education starting in the fall 2018 semester.
