President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Florida on Friday in an apparent attempt to boost the chances of Alabama Republican candidate Roy Moore in Tuesday's Senate election, The Hill is reporting.

The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday — just 20 miles from the Alabama border. Moore is not expected to be on hand for the rally, the website said.

Trump has come out in support of Moore, who has been accused by women of sexual misconduct years ago. Moore is facing Democrat Doug Jones in the race for Senate.

"What this is President Trump signaling to his base, to his 'Deplorables,' that he still has their back," a Republican strategist, who supports Trump, said of the Friday rally. "Have you ever known President Trump to go half-in?"

Moore's campaign is welcoming Trump's appearance, Fox News reported.

"We're looking forward to President Trump being on the Gulf Coast," said Ben DuPre, a Moore adviser.

The news network noted Pensacola shares a media market with Mobile, Alabama. And it pointed out it is an easy car drive for Trump supporters in Alabama.

"The balance of power in the Senate is very narrow," said Shanna Chamblee, a gun rights activist who is supporting Moore. "President Trump needs Roy Moore's support if the opportunity becomes available to appoint another Supreme Court justice."

The Hill reported Republicans expect Trump to use the rally to push the idea that a vote for Moore is a vote for the Trump agenda.
