Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler, R-Wash., says she isn’t in fear “at all” over her decision to vote yes to impeach President Donald Trump.
"This decision was not, like, a fear-based decision for me," she told CNN Wednesday.
Five GOP House members have signaled their support for the effort to impeach Trump, including Herrera-Beutler, Fred Upton of Michigan, Liz Cheney of Wyoming, John Katko of New York, and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.
The House will vote to impeach Trump Wednesday for a second time. Democrats are charging him with “incitement of insurrection” for his role in last week’s deadly U.S. Capitol attack.
“I understand the argument that the best course is not to further inflame the country or alienate Republican voters. But I am a Republican voter,” Herrera Beutler wrote on Twitter in announcing her decision. “I see that my own party will be best served when those among us choose truth,” she added.
“I believe President Trump acted against his oath of office, so I will vote to impeach him.”
On Wednesday she told CNN the vote would be the most “consequential vote I've ever taken as a member.
“And see, more than anything, I just, I just want people to know this isn't about choosing sides, this is about choosing truth,” she added.
