Donald Trump Jr. on Monday shot down talk of gun control in the wake of the Texas church shooting, suggesting on Twitter that the "psycho (with) illegal gun" would still have been able to perpetrate the massacre.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott earlier Monday said that the alleged gunman, who may have been shot by a shotgun-toting Good Samaritan but subsequently killed himself, was denied a carry permit in the state of Texas.

Further, given Devin Kelley's "bad conduct" charge and dismissal from the Air Force, it was already impermissible for him to legally purchase any kind of weapon, let alone a semi-automatic weapon like the one he allegedly used to kill 26 inside a Sutherland Springs, Texas, Baptist church, Abbott said.

President Donald Trump earlier Monday called the shooter "deranged," and said the massacre was about mental health, not guns.
