Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday said he will be live-tweeting the debate between his vice-presidential running mate Mike Pence and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine.
He made the announcement via Twitter:
The debate starts at 9 p.m. Eastern, and will take place at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., with CBS News' Elaine Quijano moderating.
Mike McCurry, Commission on Presidential Debates co-chairman and former White House press secretary to Bill Clinton, told Fox News' "Your World with Neil Cavuto" he wasn't surprised to hear Trump's announcement, though it does represent a departure from tradition.
"Usually the top of the ticket kind of takes a backseat and lets the No. 2 candidate shine on these occasions," McCurry said. "But Donald Trump likes to do things differently."
But McCurry said it would "trouble" him if news organizations choose to run Trump's tweets onscreen during the debate.
"I think we want to concentrate on what the candidates have to say."
