President Donald Trump reportedly has offered former Fox News analyst K.T. McFarland the post of U.S. ambassador to Singapore.
McFarland, 65, was deputy national security adviser under Michael Flynn, who was fired last month over questions about his forthrightness about his dealings with Russia.
The offer was made several weeks ago, sources told CNN on Saturday, and McFarland is weighing her options.
She also is being considered for a senior role at the State Department, according to the sources, but it was not clear whether Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has offered her the post.
McFarland's future at the NSC became uncertain after Flynn stepped down last month and grew even more so after President Trump named Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster as his replacement, CNN reports.
McFarland had not been asked to step down by the White House, however, the sources said.
Both McFarland and a spokesperson for the National Security Council declined to comment.
