President Donald Trump defended his recent meeting with NATO leaders in a new tweet, saying he convinced member countries to pay more money to be part of the coalition.

Trump also used the opportunity to take a shot at the news media, saying, "The media only says I was rude to leaders, never mentions the money!"

Trump was criticized for how he handled himself at the NATO summit in Brussels. Before the meeting, he demanded that member countries reimburse the United States for not paying their fair share to be part of the military alliance.

After months of criticizing the organization, however, he seemed to change his tune during the summit.

"NATO is much stronger now than it was two days ago," Trump said July 12, describing an unscheduled crisis meeting of the 29 alliance leaders as "fantastic" and having "a great collegial spirit."
