President Donald Trump on Friday used his weekly address on Facebook to tout the candidacy of Judge Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, saying that his confirmation is about much more than his "incredible qualifications."
"It's about preserving our Republic," Trump said.
In his 3-minute-plus address, Trump said Gorsuch will be the antidote to judges who have veered away from the Constitution.
"In recent years, we've seen more and more judges make decisions, not based on the Constitution or the rule of law, but based on their preferences, their personal views or even their political opinions," Trump said.
"Each time a judge substitutes their own opinions for an unbiased reading of the law, they damage our democracy. They put their own will above the will of the people, and they undermine a legislative process that has always been the heartbeat of our democracy," Trump said.
"Judge Gorsuch is a man who respects the law. He defends the Constitution. And in so doing, he will protect our freedoms. With Judge Gorusch on the Supreme Court, America will be a more free, fair and just nation for all of our citizens."
Gorsuch is scheduled for a confirmation vote in the Senate on April 7, though Democrats are threatening to filibuster his confirmation.
