President Donald Trump and his legal team continue to assail the Russia investigation and everything about it, save for the man in charge of it, Politico reports.
That calculation is an easy one for Team Trump — the details of Trump's interview with special counsel Robert Mueller are still being hammered out and negotiated.
Play nice, for now.
"It's not in their interest right now to poke the bear," former Hillary Clinton campaign aide Zac Petkanas told Politico.
Trump has pounded away at the periphery of the Russia probe since its inception, the FBI, its rogue agents and former leadership, as well as Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, most notably Rep. Adam Schiff.
But not once in Trump's 30 attacks on the Russia probe has he once tweeted anything specifically about Mueller, Politico reports.
Privately is a different matter for Trump, who grouses about Mueller regularly, Politico reports.
But the president and his legal team publicly?
"I studiously avoid talking about the special counsel's office," Trump attorney and conservative talk radio host Jay Sekulow told Politico. "I'm trying to deal with the issues surrounding it. But not it."
