President Donald Trump says he’s “proud” to take full credit for the “sick idea” of sending detained illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities — and that the plan is already underway.

In a rally in Green Bay, Wis., Saturday night, Trump admitted he came up with the idea to exact revenge on political enemies.

”Last month alone, 100,000 illegal immigrants arrived at our borders, placing a massive strain on communities and schools and hospitals and public resources like nobody’s ever seen before," Trump said, during a rally in Green Bay, Wis., The Hill reported.

"Now we’re sending many of them to sanctuary cities, thank you very much. They’re not too happy about it. I’m proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea."

"Hey, hey, what did they say? We want them," Trump continued. "I say we’ll give em to you, thank you."

On Friday in a speech to the National Rifle Association, Trump said the United States is "forced to release" illegal immigrants into the country and that "we give them (sanctuary cities) as many as they can handle,” CNN reported.

The administration initially denied the plan was under active consideration, but Trump tweeted two weeks ago he was considering it.

The Department of Homeland Security hasn't made any formal announcement.
