Donald Trump Wednesday ripped news reports that his campaign staffers approached Ohio Gov. John Kasich for vice president or any other position in a possible administration.

The Republican presidential nominee said on Twitter:

The New York Times and CNN reported Wednesday that Trump campaign officials approached Kasich's advisers in April or May about either vice president or some other role within a possible Trump White House.

Donald Trump Jr. also telephoned top Kasich aide John Weaver to gauge the governor's interest in being "in charge of all domestic and foreign policy," said CNN's Dana Bash in her report.

"We were told by Kasich sources that the answer was … 'Are you kidding me?'" she told host Brooke Baldwin. "They kind of couldn't believe that that was the offer, but never took it seriously or any other overture that they got."

Trump selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence last week — and the governor is expected to be officially nominated at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Wednesday.
