President Donald Trump broke his silence late Tuesday night and addressed his firing earlier in the day of FBI Director James Comey.
Trump didn't bring up the firing directly, but instead focused on Democrats' reaction to it, specifically, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who held a press conference suggesting Trump may have fired Comey to thwart the bureau's probe into whether Trump campaign officials improperly contacted Russians who were trying to influence the election.
Comey angered both Democrats and Republicans during the election by calling a press conference on July 5 and laying out a case against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. But he then recommended no prosecution against her, saying there was no intent to break the law that could be proved.
Comey announced publicly he was reopening the probe just days before the election, then said no new emails were found.
