Trump University students are now claiming they were coerced into providing positive reviews and conned out of their life's savings,
the Daily Beast is reporting.
The students are some of the same ones held up by the presumptive Republican nominee's legal team as evidence Trump University was everything they dreamt of and more, according to the website.
"Trump University is some [of] the best money I ever invested," the Daily Beast reported student Ryan Maddings wrote in one of the evaluations for a three-day Trump University retreat in 2008.
And The Daily Beast says it is one that Trump's legal team points to as an example of "students [who] were very pleased with TU training."
But Maddings told The Daily Beast, "It was a lie."
The former Marine, 32, claims he racked up around $45,000 in credit card debt just to buy Trump University seminars and products.
In one of the class action lawsuits brought against Trump University, defense attorneys provided 15 surveys from students who praised the program. They were said to be examples of the "overwhelmingly positive" reviews Trump University collected.
The Daily Beast attempted to contact the 15 students and spoke with five. Four of those reported they no longer felt positively about TU. Two said they lost their life's savings in the deal.
And the New York Times reports they are not the only ones unhappy about the program.
"I believe that Trump University was a fraudulent scheme and that it preyed upon the elderly and uneducated to separate them from their money," former sales manager Ronald Schnackenberg wrote in court papers, according to the newspaper.
But The Daily Beast says Donald Trump is defending the program.
I'll tell you about the school," he said. "Ninety-eight percent of the people that took the courses, 98 percent approved of the courses. They thought they were terrific."
