Reince Priebus, President Donald Trump's White House chief of staff, issued an Inauguration Day memo to stop federal agencies from issuing new regulations, The Hill reported Friday.
The procedural move mirrors one former President Barack Obama had his first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, send to federal agencies on his Inauguration Day in January 2009.
Priebus' memo told agencies to refrain from sending regulations to the Federal Register before it can be reviewed by President Trump's new appointments — once they are in place amid some push back from Democrats.
Friday's order also declared regulations already submitted, but not published, will be withdrawn — and any new rules in the past 60 days are to have their effective date moved back at least another 60 days, according to the Hill.
Rules related to emergency situations of health, safety, financial or national security will not be impacted by the memo's declaration, however.
