New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's press secretary Tuesday chided Sean Spicer on Twitter after the spokesman for President-elect Donald Trump posted about the brief evacuation of Trump Tower because of a suspicious package.

Here is what Spicer said:

Eric Phillips, the de Blasio aide, responded:

Part of Trump Tower was evacuated for about a half-hour after police discovered a suspicious package that turned out to be a backpack filled with children's toys.

The New York City Police Department confirmed that the situation was safe and under control in a tweet posted about 5 p.m.

Earlier this month, de Blasio's office asked the federal government for as much as $35 million for security costs related to protecting Trump at his offices on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

City police have had to work the Secret Service to provide intensified security measures in one of Manhattan's busiest neighborhoods.
