Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush endorsed Mitt Romney for the Senate on Monday as reports swirl the 2012 Republican presidential candidate plans to run.

Romney posted a tweet early Monday that was critical of President Donald Trump's reported comments about Haiti and certain African nations last week. Bush, who himself ran for president in the last election, responded by heaping praise on the former Massachusetts governor.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is retiring at the end of this year. It has been reported several times over the past year Romney could throw his hat into the ring if the 83-year-old Hatch were to step aside. It was reported Sunday it appears Romney has made up his mind to run.

Romney has been critical of Trump in the past, although the pair reconciled enough to meet on multiple occasions in late 2016 because Trump was considering him for secretary of state.

Romney's Monday tweet could suggest he plans to distance himself from the commander-in-chief if he runs for Hatch's seat.
