Vermont's congressional delegation called the defeat of the Republican health plan "a victory."
Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders told the crowd at a joint town hall meeting Saturday in Hardwick that he plans to introduce in the Senate a "Medicare for all" bill soon.
Democratic Rep. Peter Welch said he'd introduce the same bill in the House of Representatives. The hundreds of Vermonters who turned out for the meeting filling a small gymnasium stood on their feet and cheered.
Several asked the delegation questions about health care, immigration, education and how to continue the fight against the Trump administration.
Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy said "these are not normal times ... they're scary times."
The town hall meetings are a way for residents to address the delegation all in one forum.
