The Washington Times is endorsing the reelection of President Donald Trump.
The words of support came in an editorial posted Tuesday by the newspaper. The Times noted it did not endorse a candidate in the 2016 presidential election.
“Four years ago, Donald J. Trump presented himself to the American people as a brash, vulgar, gold-plated reality star seeking a political career in which he promised to bounce the entrenched Washington political set off the ropes of a pro wrestling ring and pound them into the canvas,” the newspaper said. “It all seemed so self-serving and absurd.”
The Times said Trump had no political track record four years ago.
“Today, four years later, Mr. Trump has endured the tumult of our times to build a clear track record in key areas worth reviewing,” it said.
The newspaper cited Trump’s successes with the economy, national security, and getting judges nominated and confirmed.
It also pointed to his handling of race relations, tax reform, his changes in federal regulations, and noted how he “has met the challenge (of the pandemic) as best as possible.”
“Has Mr. Trump been perfect?” the newspaper asked. “No. This is, after all, politics. But his record of achievement in his first term is unmatched by any president in modern times. A second term is likely to bring more successes and a stronger America.”
Trump tweeted his appreciation for the support on Tuesday.
He wrote: “Thank you very much to the great @WashTimes for the wonderful Endorsement of the job I have done as President.”
