Federal whistleblowers continue to face unlawful retaliation in President Obama's administration, according to a story in the Washington Examiner.
In a statement released Tuesday, the independent U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) said it continues to "advance a culture … that thanks whistleblowers for their service rather than retaliates against them."
"Courageous employees deserve our appreciation, but all too often they face harassment, demotion or firing," the OSC said in a joint statement with the Council of the Inspectors General. "Such retaliation is unlawful, and we are working together to make sure that it is stopped and that those who retaliate are held accountable."
One agency noted by the OSC where retaliation is especially troubling is the Department of Veterans Affairs, where whistleblowers first surfaced the wait times suffered by vets, the Examiner reported.
July 30 was National Whistleblower Appreciation Day.
