A back-and-forth verbal skirmish has ensued following a comment on Wednesday by former Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, who said President Donald Trump had been a "complete disaster," aside from his foreign policy accomplishments.
"Everything else he's done has been a complete disaster," Boehner said, according to The Washington Post on Friday. "He's still learning how to be president."
White House social media director Dan Scavino on Twitter Friday responded it was Boehner who was the "disaster" and showed a CBS video of the former speaker crying during a "60 Minutes" interview.
Boehner's comments came during a speech at financial services company KPMG's annual Global Energy Conference, The Hill reported. Boehner also said massive tax reform discussions by the White House and Republicans in Congress were "just a bunch of happy talk."
In addition, he maintained the president should not use Twitter and that he "never envisioned" Trump would become president.
Boehner resigned from Congress in October 2015 after repeated clashes with conservative Republican lawmakers.
