A tentative bipartisan deal reached Sunday on $1.1 trillion spending bill to keep the government open through the end of September looks "very good for the White House and Republicans," deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday.
"This has been a long process, but one that we feel has moved in the right direction," she told Fox News' "Happening Now" program.
"Certainly, some of the president's top priorities are front-and-center in this bill, including an increasing military spending so that we can rebuild the military the way that it should be."
The administration has "heavy emphasis on border security," and the military, she continued, and the tentative bill contains items for both projects.
According to early reports, the bill includes a $15 billion boost for the Pentagon, with $2.5 billion of that money is contingent on the administration delivering a new plan to fight the Islamic State.
It also included $1.5 billion for border security, except it can't be used for the border wall or additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The bill also includes no new restrictions for money going to sanctuary cities.
"We are trying to rein in as much spending as possible, but one of the biggest priorities in the process was about the military," said Sanders. "That was about military spending and rebuilding the military. That is a huge success and a big pillar of the bill. You also have things like the D.C. voucher program that are included in this bill, another big priority."
Sanders said another priority, healthcare reform, is also moving forward, and drastic action is needed to repeal and replace Obamacare.
"One thing that is being discussed and is currently in the bill, I know the controversy that you said with pre-existing conditions, that is in the bill," she said.
"There is some flexibility to the states. That was important. Obamacare was a one size fits all between what we knew would not work. What may work in California may not work in South Dakota."
