The White House flags have been returned to full staff less than 48 hours after the death of Sen. John McCain, evidenced by the images taken by reporters arriving Monday.
President Donald Trump ordered them lowered Saturday evening after the Arizona senator succumbed to his fight with cancer. It's customary for the White House flags to remain lowered until the funeral of a dignitary like McCain.
McCain's funeral will be Sunday at the Naval Academy.
The relationship between McCain and Trump remained frayed until the end, with McCain a few months ago requesting that Trump not attend his funeral.
Trump opted for a tweet Saturday night offering "hearts and prayers" to McCain's family over an official White House statement praising McCain.
The White House had no comment about the flags early Monday.
