While not commenting directly on what White House communications director Hope Hicks might say in her Capitol Hill testimony to the House Intelligence Committee Tuesday, deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley insisted that there was no collusion between President Donald Trump and his campaign with Russians.
"I will defer you to her attorney," he told Fox News' "Happening Now" about Hicks. "I can and will not comment on anything Hope Hicks may or may not say. There has been no collusion. We've seen [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein say just the same thing after an exhaustive search. Over a year, we find out nothing is there."
And that, he said, proves Trump's case that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is a "witch hunt."
"We expect at the end of this that it will be proven true," he said. "We have been completely cooperative with every aspect of this investigation and are not going to stop being cooperative now."
Gidley also discussed the president's stance on gun legislation, pointing out that he has been having several meetings and is listening to all ideas and solutions.
"We've seen this issue dogging our country for a long time," said Gidley. "The president says it's time to fix it."
Trump has said he wants to see bump stocks, which are used to make guns fire as if they are automatic weapons banned.
"The president is against that and so is the NRA for that matter," said Gidley. "Donald Trump is more than the president of the United States. He is a father and he is a grandfather. He wants what everybody else in this country wants, safety and security at our schools and when you're walking down the street."
Gidley also discussed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals dilemma, following the Supreme Court's decision to reject an appeal aimed at ending deportation protection, putting the discussions on hold and allowing dreamers to renew their applications.
"It's incredible that Congress refuses to come to the table to get something accomplished on this issue," said Gidley. "Let's not forget when President Barack Obama had the White House as a Democrat, he controlled also the Democrat party and had a filibuster-proof Senate and [he] made a campaign promise to fix the issue within the first 100 days.
"Democrats didn't touch it. What President Trump has done is proven the hypocrisy of the Democrats."
