Reports that high level members of the U.S. Secret Service were forced to resign late Thursday night are false, according to both the agency and the reporter who broke the story, who now claims it was the White House Chief of Information Security who was "forced to resign."

"The report regarding the Secret Service personnel is absolutely false," said a spokeswoman for the agency on Friday, according to the Washington Examiner.

Steve Clemons, the Atlantic's and the National Journal's Washington editor at large, tweeted the report at 1:30 a.m. on Friday:

Clemons updated his report late Friday morning in a series of tweets, clarifying that the personnel were not Secret Service staff, but members of White House security who "shared space" with the Secret Service.
