Defense Secretary-nominee Pete Hegseth testified Tuesday that he is unaware of letters sent to "woke" policymakers at President Joe Biden's Pentagon, warning that they will be fired by the incoming administration if they do not reform their "woke DEI policies."
The allegations came from Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jack Reed, D-R.I., at the start of Hegseth's Senate confirmation hearing, claiming an email has a "list of those personnel to be removed" that includes "disloyal, corrupt, traitorous, liberal officers" who propagate the Pentagon's "woke" diversity, equity, inclusion policies.
"Senator, you mention the word accountability, which is something we had not had for the past four years," Hegseth said in the hearing that aired on Newsmax and the streaming Newsmax2 platform.
"Are you aware of these messages sent to officers?" Reed asked.
"Certainly, I am not aware of that, it's not one of my efforts," Hegseth added.
"There has been no accountability for the disaster that occurred in Afghanistan, and that's precisely why we're here today: Is that leadership is unwilling to take accountability, and it's time to restore that to our most senior ranks."
