Forty-nine percent of registered voters support the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump, according to a new HuffPost-YouGov poll.
The report comes as lawmakers are tied up in a dispute over the procedures that will govern a Senate impeachment trial. The House last week voted in favor of two impeachment articles against Trump – obstruction and abuse of power – stemming from efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate his Democratic rivals.
The HuffPost/YouGov poll also found:
- 52% of registered voters said they thought impeachment was likely.
- 49% of registered voters said Trump should be removed from office, compared with 46% who said he should not.
- 45%of registered voters said they approved of the House of Representatives' vote to impeach Trump.
- 49% of registered voters said U.S. senators should vote to convict Trump and remove him from office.
- 42% of registered voters strongly disapprove of the Democrats' handling of the impeachment inquiry and 44% said the same of Republicans.
