Two Republican lawmakers from New York are calling for immediate action against Gov. Andrew Cuomo after a top aide said Cuomo's administration withheld data on coronavirus deaths at the state’s nursing homes.

Fox News reported that Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., wants a Justice Department probe.

"The families of thousands of dead New York seniors deserve accountability and justice for the true consequences of Governor Cuomo's fatally flawed nursing home policy and the continued attempts to cover it up. It's clear what's happening here is criminal," Zeldin said.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., is demanding Cuomo and his "senior team" be prosecuted immediately in connection with the revelations.

"The families who lost loved one, New Yorkers, and all Americans, deserve accountability from the U.S. Department of Justice that will be independent and not swayed by the desperate political pressure from Gov. Cuomo," she said in a statement posted on her Twitter account.

According to the New York Post, Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa privately told state lawmakers that the Cuomo administration rebuffed a legislative request for the nursing home death toll because "right around the same time, [then-President Donald Trump] turns this into a giant political football."
