Talk about mission creep. California’s grandiose leftist gubernatorial candidate, Gavin Newsom, isn’t content to be chief executive of the nation’s most populace state. No, this Democrat told ABC 7 that he intends, “to be the head of the resistance, but also perhaps more importantly, to run the state as a positive alternative to Trump and Trumpism.”
To begin with, I’m not even sure there is a philosophy called “Trumpism.” The president appears to be, shall we say, a bit too flexible to be bound by any hard-and-fast set of rules. What Newsom evidently means is that if Trump supports a policy, he’s agin’ it.
When Newsom has time for concerns that take place here at home, one of his top priorities is protecting a tax from being repealed by rebellious voters.
His opponent, Republican John Cox, is working to repeal California’s new gas tax. Newsom says he’s worried about repeal “substantively.” “The fact is, California has the worst road conditions in the nation,” Newsom explained. “Long Beach and LA corridors, 60 percent of the roads are in poor condition. [If the gas tax is repealed by voters] they will only get worse.”
Now here’s a little-known fact that Newsom prefers to keep little known. California didn’t come with roads that were pre-installed. Or roads that were built by the Indians. Or roads that were built by the Spanish. With the exception of interstate highways, every road in California was built by the state of California with money raised by taxes that were in existence long before passage of the new gas tax.
If the taxes California residents were already paying were enough to build the roads, why weren’t the taxes enough to maintain the roads? That’s easy. The leftist-dominated legislature and governor’s office spent the money on something else that wasn’t roads. That’s why there’s a new gas tax that we are promised will only be spent on roads. Until something else like scooter lanes distracts our political class.
Gavin also wants to keep providing services to the citizens of Latin America through his sanctuary state policies and his new bright idea for free universal health care for illegals. Citizens may even be included, too.
Newsom supports boondoggles like the bullet train to nowhere, more homeless indulgence, decriminalizing crime, discrimination against Christians and sharing the wealth. The entire laundry list of leftist fantasy political issues.
In fact, Newsom is so extreme that if he’s elected it will make zany current Gov. Jerry Brown look like Ronald Reagan.
