The FBI is investigating the possible theft of $1.2 million in cash after the money went missing from a cargo container aboard a Swissair jet that landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Monday.
Police and investigators from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey declined to give any further details.
The money was reportedly being held in a smaller receptacle inside a larger cargo container, but it's not clear whether it went missing before it
took off from its undisclosed point of origin or after it landed in New York, a source told the New York Post.
It was not clear who sent the money or whom it was supposed to be delivered to.

The Post's source said the FBI is investigating to see if flight mechanics, crewmembers, or airport personnel at either airport had access to the plane's cargo area.
This isn't the first major cargo heist at JFK Airport. In 1978, $5.8 million in cash was stolen from a Lufthansa Airlines terminal. The crime was later included in the 1990 Martin Scorsese movie "Goodfellas."
