The “12 Days of Christmas” cost, if you were to buy the items in the popular song, may have you altering your budget for your true love this year.
PNC released its annual Christmas Price Index on Friday, which showed a 0.7 percent increase from last year's cost of items from the "12 Days of Christmas" carol, according to Business Insider.
That’s up from a 0.6 percent increase in last year’s index.
The overall cost of the items in the classic carol, which includes a partridge and drummers, is nearly $157,000, according to Business Insider.
The “core” index, which excludes swans, rose 1.1 percent to about $21,000.
According to the Daily Mail, it was the cost of turtle doves that was the main source for the monetary increase from last year’s numbers.
The price of two turtle doves, which would have cost under $300 last year, was listed at nearly $400 this year, the Daily Mail noted.
“The headline, I think, is that inflation in this economy, with the sort of tepid recovery we’ve seen, is almost nonexistent,” said Jim Dunigan, a chief investment officer of PNC’s asset management group, The Huffington Post noted.
Another chief investment officer of the group, Thomas Melcher, spoke on the issue as well, according to the Daily Mail.
“There are some underlying inflationary pressures that seem to be building,” Melcher said. “At a certain point, the end product should begin to reflect the price appreciation of the commodity.”
Despite the jump in the overall cost of gifts in the "12 Days of Christmas," nine of the gifts listed in the classic carol remained the same price from last year or cheaper, the Daily Mail noted.
PNC has published this index – highlighting the prices of the 12 gifts in the carol – for more than 30 years.
