The motive behind the shooting on the 91 Freeway Monday remains a mystery for southern California's Anaheim Police Department, and officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
KTLA reported that 32-year-old Agustin Villegas was riding in the passenger seat of his cousin's car with their two sons, ages 13 and 15, near the 57 Freeway interchange when the windows shattered from bullet spray. Villegas was killed, and the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He managed to pull the vehicle over as the boys called 911.

"At this point we have no evidence to support that this was a car-to-car shooting, or if the shooting happened from someone standing on the side of the freeway," said Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn. "We do know that obviously some sort of shooting occurred, but how that happened, we’re still investigating."
Police closed the westbound portion of the highway at Kramer Boulevard for several hours to search for evidence that might lead them to the shooter or shooters.
Dunn said the families didn't appear to have any criminal ties, and that Villegas was the sole provider for his family.
"'Why this happened' is one of the questions we're trying to answer," Dunn said.
According to the Los Angeles Times, all lanes of the highway were open by 2:30 a.m. early Tuesday morning.
Any and all tips for the police regarding the shooting should be directed to Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
