Al Roker Sorry for Insensitive Smiley-Face Flooding Tweet

NBC's Al Roker found himself apologizing Sunday for what some considered an insensitive Twitter post of him smiling in front of a collapsed highway during historic flooding in South Carolina.

The crumbling highway was used as a backdrop of what appeared to be a selfie with a couple of his NBC weather co-workers, noted Mediaite.com.

By the end of the Sunday, Roker issued two Twitter posts apologizing for the earlier "smiling" post.

Absolutely correct. I apologize for being insensitive. The woman in that car got out without injury. We Should not have been in the picture

Eleven deaths in South Carolina and two deaths in North Carolina have been attributed to the flooding, according to CNN.

"I believe that things will get worse before they get better," Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin told reporters Monday.

"Eventually the floods will abate, but then we have to access the damage, and I anticipate that damage will probably be in the billions of dollars, and we're going to have to work to rebuild. Some peoples' lives as they know them will never be the same," Benjamin added, noted CNN.
