Americans are returning from the Sochi Olympics not only with medals but stray dogs, as E! News correspondent Ali Fedotowsky and actress Katherine Heigl joined in the rescue effort last weekend.

Fedotowsky, former star of the ABC reality show "The Bachelorette," returned from Russia with two stray puppies after working as a correspondent in Sochi the past two weeks, reported ABC News.

She was joined at Los Angeles International Airport by Heigl and her mother Nancy Heigl, who agreed to help find places for the dogs, per ABC News. Heigl has seven dogs of her own and is the cofounder of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which matches shelter dogs with happy homes.

"Katherine and Nancy have been nice enough to take her in for a little while until we find her a home," Fedotowsky told KABC-TV. "Literally, I’ve received hundreds of requests already to adopt her. I wasn't going to bring her back just to add her to another shelter."

Fedotowsky thanked Heigl publicly on her Twitter account Sunday.

Heigl told People magazine the international dog rescue was something new for her and the foundation.

"We haven't done this before. We haven't done a rescue from another country," Heigl said. "I'm nervous for the dogs. It's an awfully long flight. I'm hoping it's the beginning of the good life to come."

People said the dogs received a medical checkup when they arrived in the United States. Sochi, the male pup, had been diagnosed with canine parvovirus and will be receiving treatment. Adler, the female pup, had a cough and both will stay with a veterinarian for the time being.

Heigl, the former costar of the hit ABC series "Grey's Anatomy," told TMZ.com last week that was trying crowd funding to raise $150,000 to complete her independent film "Jenny's Wedding."
