Amanda Bynes’ recent erratic behavior may be the result of a schizophrenic condition, and a cocktail of medicines at an inpatient treatment center have stabilized the young star, sources told TMZ.

Bynes, 27, was being held on an involuntary commitment order after she allegedly tried to start a fire in a woman’s driveway.

TMZ’s exclusive report from an unnamed source said the mix of psychiatric medicines made a “dramatic” and fast improvement in Bynes, and she has quit talking to herself, hearing voices, and leveling insults at those around her. No official statement has been made about the actress’ diagnosis.

Bynes played in Nickelodeon’s "All That" and her co-star Nick Cannon published an open letter on HootSuite showing his support for her.

“So I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you’re not alone. I’m here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that’s what family does and that’s what family is for,” Cannon wrote in the long letter that explored the challenges of stardom and what he termed excess. “I’m here! Call me! Because I truly believe, the hand you’re helping up today may be the one you’re reaching for tomorrow. So not to be all cheesy and over sentimental but I got to end this with the ingenious Wither’s lyrics 'Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long until I’ll need somebody to lean on.'”

Bynes was committed on July 24, although she had been displaying odd behavior before that. Since then, her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes, have petitioned the court for conservatorship of their daughter because of her alleged mental illness.

Bynes apparently is not facing criminal charges stemming from the fire incident near where Bynes’ parents live because of the possibility that she is mentally ill, said the Daily Mail.
