Sears will sell its Kenmore refrigerators and stoves on Amazon's website, the company announced Thursday.
This marks the very first time that Sears has made its kitchen appliances available outside of its stores, according to USA Today.
This will also be the first time Sears will be selling its products directly through Amazon.com.
Sears has been in the headlines recently for its financial woes and struggle to remain relevant among retail giants.
"We continuously look for opportunities to enhance the reach of our iconic brands to more customers and create additional value from our assets," Sears CEO Eddie Lampert said in a statement. "The launch of Kenmore products on Amazon.com will significantly expand the distribution and availability of the Kenmore brand in the U.S.”
According to NBC News, Sears' sales have been in the hole for years because of online retailers like Amazon who have led an emergence of online shoppers versus a decrease in in-store shoppers.
"Working with Amazon is perfectly aligned with our omni-channel strategy to unleash the power and service of Kenmore and support the brand's growth," Tom Park, President of Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard brands, said in a statement.
Sears' shares saw an immediate increase after news of this deal broke. The company's shares jumped to 19 percent on Thursday.
While Sears appears to be the major winners in this deal, Amazon has agreed to sell the company's items knowing that they're not taking much of a risk.
"If the business doesn’t warrant the space that Amazon provides it on their site, it will disappear," said Mark A. Cohen, a former Sears executive. "Amazon is not shouldering the burden of delivery, installation, and service — which is a major component of the appliance business."
